This video is a brief introduction to Bhagat Singh's Journey and sacrifices for India’s freedom.

Bhagat Singh was the youngest and most influential revolutionaries who fought for India’s freedom. He was only 23 years old when he sacrificed his life for this country.

It all started when he was only 12 years old that is when Jallianwala Bagh massacre occurred. He traveled 40 km to Jallianwala Bagh and witnessed thousands of people dying right in front of him. The death of those innocent people left an extreme impact on him, which made him vow to strive for the complete independence of his country.

In 1921, he joined Gandhiji in his ‘Asahayog Andolan” but later he made his own formation to advocate the violent overthrow of British rule in India.

He left his parent’s home at the age of 17 years to fight for India’s freedom and together with other fellow freedom fighters; he established a revolutionary organization by the name of “Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).

In 1928, he joined Lala Lajpat Rai who was leading a major protest against Simon commission. However, the British government ordered Lathi charge (Baton Charge) against protestors, which killed Lajpat Rai. Bhagat Singh plotted to avenge Lajpat Rai’s death by assassinating British Government’s official.

In 1929, Bhagat Singh was arrested for throwing political handouts and smoke bombs at Delhi Legislative Assembly. The bombing was planned in a way that it wouldn’t cause any harm but depict the protest against the passing of two discriminatory bills.

Even in Jail, Bhagat Singh and his fellow inmates started an indefinite hunger strike to protest against the discriminatory treatment of white versus native prisoners and demanded to be recognized as “Political Prisoners”

Bhagat Singh was sentenced to death in Lahore conspiracy case and ordered to be hanged on 24, March 1931. However, the schedule was moved forward by 11 hours and he was hanged on 23 March 1931 in Lahore Jail. It is said that he proceeded cheerfully towards the gallows while chanting his favorite slogan “Inquilab Zindabad” and “ Down with British Imperialism”. To honor his contribution towards India’s freedom he was officially declared a Shaheed (martyr).

Every Indian is proud of this brave freedom fighter that made it possible for us to live freely in our own country.

India has managed to get independence from British rule but still, we need freedom from a lot of major social problems such as corruption, Illiteracy, and Poverty. I request every resident of this country to take the responsibility and contribute to make India the way Bhagat Singh dreamt of.
